About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):

The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $34,216. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

The Returns Processing Coordinator works independently to process documents according to agency policies and procedures. You will seek assistance if additional resources are needed to resolve issues. This role includes receiving and moving documents, operating advanced sorting and scanning equipment, and ensuring work is completed accurately. You may access Federal Tax information while performing daily job duties. Confidentiality is essential.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Receive, analyze, and sort documents received by mail.

  • Review, analyze, and determine the best method to process tax returns efficiently.

  • Load and unload trucks when items are received in bulk.

  • Operate high-speed equipment such as mail opener, sorter, and shredder.

  • Inventory and disburse supplies throughout the building and agency.

  • Operate a forklift when needed for bulk items.

  • Ensure furniture and cabinets are properly placed for efficient access and use.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Considerable knowledge of the return processing procedures for various tax returns, applications, and forms.

  • Ability to recommend changes to the workflow when appropriate.

  • Ability to gather statistical data and prepare appropriate reports for supervisor or work leader.

  • Hold a valid Indiana Driver’s License in good standing.
