Summary of Job Duties:

The International Student Advisor will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) to advise non-immigrant students and their dependents on immigration-related matters; facilitate educational programming for students and the University community; assist with institutional record keeping and reporting requirements for Homeland Security; welcome international students and their families to the University of Arkansas through pre-arrival orientations, arrival services, communication, and orientation; and cultivate a sense of belonging among the international community on campus.\ Individuals hired into this position must be able to show United States citizenship or United States permanent resident status, per federal regulation.\ Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty. In addition, the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others is imperative.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least two years of full-time professional experience which provides skills applicable to advising students, understanding and applying federal regulations, and/or inspecting and maintaining student documents

Preferred Qualifications:

Master\'s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in international education or a related field

International education experience such as study abroad, international student/scholar office, and/or outreach to the international community

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Skills to thrive in a multicultural environment

Skills to teach complex information to non-native English speakers using audio and visual tools in interpersonal and group settings

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Oracle products

Ability to read and understand federal regulations and apply them to individual circumstances

Ability to advocate for students at the institution and in the community
