Title: Freight Operations Supervisor

Location: City of Industry, CA (on-site)

Salary Range: $70,000 - $82,000/yr

The Freight Operations Supervisor will lead all procurement and compliance-related activities, contract management, and ongoing carrier relationship activities. They will ensure that internal and external customers receive the highest level of service while obtaining the necessary capacity at appropriate costs.

This role requires someone who has led transportation procurement and carrier selection activity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all bid events including carrier screening, communications, RFP, negotiations and contracts for all modes of transportation (truckload, LTL and intermodal).

  • Responsible for the development of a service provider network that maintains costs, supports growth, improves service and execution.

  • Work closely with operations to ensure adequate capacity to cover all volume including seasonal surges and ad-hoc needs.

  • Ensure that appropriate contractual relationships exist with all carriers and brokers.

  • Establish provider KPI’s, scorecards and monitor carrier performance.

  • Conduct carrier meetings and reviews.

  • Ensure that all performance issues are escalated within the carrier's organization and properly resolved. File carrier claims and manage for contractual results.

  • Monitor carrier safety performance and ensures all providers are in compliance with local / state / federal laws.

  • Translate strategies into specific goals, tactics, action plans and deliverables.

  • Promote a desire and commitment for continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate support for the operation by fostering effective communication through transparency of strategies and processes and promoting relationship building initiatives.

  • Support the development of budgets, controls, and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements. Ensure proper accounting treatment is attained and report status to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Mastery of transportation management systems / supply chain technology, load boards and DAT

  • Negotiate carrier rates, while monitoring their performances. And manage the relationships of carriers and Approved Freight Forwarders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare strong business cases and to support and defend ideas and positions.

  • Proven change management skills and reputation for building and leading high-performing, cross-functional teams that achieve their goals; track record in attracting, developing, and retaining talent.

  • A champion on new initiatives with an ability to successfully work across different groups, and to execute by bridging functional and divisional silos.

  • This position will be assigned revenue goals and be in a cooperative environment with Sales, Operations, and Management, to establish revenue and margin goals.  The Brokerage team will help drive growth by working with Sales on lead generation and follow up.  Additionally, there will be an inside Business Development team that will also drive new business leads.  The variable compensation will also be focused on new business for this position.

  • Support the sales team in growing domestic business, but also grow customer accounts through ongoing lane development or spot market opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Communicate timely and effectively with customers, agents, and vendors.

  • Negotiate shipping rates for approval by upper management.

  • Provide quotes, take pick-up requests, route, and book freight as needed.

  • Identify problems and find solutions while under pressure.

  • Oversee and complete accurate billing to clients based on established pricing while ensuring accurate costs and profits are maintained.

  • Coordinate daily activity to track location and movement of loads.

  • Notify customers of any shipping delays proactively.

  • Run, maintain, and file reports.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move packages up to a certain weight (e.g., 25-50 pounds).

  • Ability to work in different environments, including office and warehouse settings.

  • Capability to use office equipment, such as computers, phones, and other tools necessary for communication and data entry.
