AAA is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Safety & Performance Team as a Fleet Safety & Performance Coordinator based in Newington, CT with travel as needed. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating new hire onboarding, coaching drivers on traffic safety and performance, maintaining Driver Qualification Files and fleet vehicle inspections. The ideal candidate will have experience providing tow, battery, tire, fuel and lock-out services and will have great communication and administrative skills. This role requires working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

The primary duties of the Club Fleet Safety & Performance Coordinator are to:

  • Lead the Fleet in a culture of safety and performance.

  • Provide new and return-to-work associates an onboarding experience including their initial session and 30, 60 and 90 day follow-up sessions. Track progress and keep Supervisors informed.

  • Coordinate with the Learning & Development Department to ensure associate compliance with required training.

  • Confirm understanding of safety and performance onboarding and training by administering quizzes and tracking results.

  • Travel to various fleet locations to present and interact with associates at Calibration Meetings regarding safety and performance.

  • Monitor associates for Traffic Safety using in-truck technology. Provide safety coaching as necessary and recommend disciplinary action as needed.

  • Analyze performance reports and identify associate training needs. Address needs through coaching, ride-alongs and coordination of additional Learning & Development coursework.

  • Provide required personal protective equipment to associates.

  • Contribute to safety investigations regarding injuries, illnesses, and traffic incidents. Provide coaching accordingly.

  • Ensure that Fleet associates are aware of Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements. Perform routine safety audits to ensure that Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements are met.

  • Participate on the Corporate Safety Committee; offer subject matter expertise.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 23 years old.

  • Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm, but additional hours may be required occasionally

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree preferred.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for the state where you reside. Must attain and maintain all state and local licensing requirements.

  • Must have ability to pass a physical examination on a bi-annual basis as required by Department of Transportation and/or Company policy when operating a vehicle over 10,001 pounds.

  • 2+ years’ experience in an automotive/mechanical environment with sales, customer service, towing and coaching, mentoring or leadership responsibilities.

  • Satisfactory pre-and post-employment screening results, including criminal, drug and motor vehicle screening.

  • Must successfully complete required departmental training courses within 60 days of hire. Must successfully complete any additional future department training as required. (May need to adjust your schedule to attend training).

  • Knowledge and skills to perform various diagnostic tests, to recommend solutions and to sell and install batteries in various types of vehicles.

  • Knowledge and skills to perform tow and recovery services.

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards is preferred.

  • Ability to use hand tools to provide service.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally and using assigned technology.

  • Ability to present and demonstrate Fleet policies and procedures to others.

  • Basic proficiency of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Proficient with call receiving and dispatching systems.

  • Basic skills using email and GPS (Global Positioning Systems).

  • Ability to operate passenger vehicles and light-medium duty trucks while primarily working from a service vehicle.

  • Ability to operate manual and automatic transmissions vehicles.

  • This job title is classified as “Safety Sensitive” in accordance with Connecticut and Oklahoma state laws.
