License: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Licensed Professional Counselors provide counseling to individuals, groups, organizations, corporations, institutions, government agencies, or to the general public for monetary remuneration or who otherwise implies licensure, training, experience, and/or expertise in counseling and who holds a current valid license to practice counseling/pschotherapy. Counseling is not restricted to, but may include, counseling, appraisal, consultation, referral, and research. Counseling is the act of assisting an individual or groups of people to develop an understanding of their personal problems, to help define their goals, to plan their actions toward reaching these goals, and to bring out their interests, abilities, aptitudes, and needs. Requirements: 1) Must possess a graduate degree that is primarily professional counseling in content from a regionally accredited institution. The graduate semester hours must meet the national academic and training content standards adopted by the Board or the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 2) Must demonstrate professional competencies by passing written examinations and/or oral interviews as prescribed by the Board. 3) Must provide evidence of 3,000 clock hours of supervised full-time experience in professional counseling acceptable to the board. 4) Must complete a criminal background check.
