License: Firearms Training Instructor

Firearm Instructors provide training at Bureau-certified firearm training facilities in the use of an exposed firearm while on duty as a security guard, alarm agent, private patrol operator or private investigator. Requirements: Be 18 or older. Undergo a criminal history background check through the DOJ and the FBI. Possess an AA degree in Administration of Justice or its equivalent AND possess a police or security firearm instructor’s training certificate issued by the National Rifle Association or a firearm instructor’s training certificate issued by a federal, state, or local agency. Application Fee - $350 DOJ Fingerprint Processing Fee - $32 FBI Fingerprint processing Fee - $17 Renewal Fee - $250 The initial license is valid for 2 years. Each renewal cycle extends the registration for an additional 2 years. Average time to process an application is 30-60 days. Authority: Business and Professions Code, Chapter 11.5
