DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Dentist examines, diagnoses and treats patients' teeth, gums, and related oral structures to prevent and correct dental problems. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: At least 18 years of age. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or alien authorized to work in the U.S. Education requirements: Graduate from a dental college accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. EXAMINATIONS: National Board Dental Examinations Part I and II. American Board of Dental Examiners ADEX exam, all 5 sections must be passed, including periodontal clinical exam. *On October 2, 2020, the Board of Dentistry voted to accept the ADEX CompeDont manikin-based exam and the manikin-based periodontal clinical exam. FEES: In 2022, pay $448 (application $100, license $120, Compliance resolution fund $148, ½ renewal for 2nd year of 2-year license $80). In 2023, pay $294 (application $100, license $120, Compliance resolution fund $74). OTHER: There were 1,051 licenses currently active as of February 24, 2022. ~ revised 04/21
