DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Pest Control Operator can be licensed in three different pest control branches: fumigation, general pest, and termite. They may be a business, sole owner, or responsible managing employee (RME). They spray or release chemical solutions or toxic gases and set mechanical traps to kill pests and vermin such as mice, termites, and roaches that infest buildings and surrounding areas. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Professional requirements: 1) Have current certification under the Hawaii pesticides law by the State Department of Agriculture as a commercial applicator in the specified branch. 2) Have Worker's Compensation and General Liability insurance. 3) Have Zoning Clearance with the respective county that allows such a business which includes chemical storage. Experience requirements: 1) Have at least 2 years of experience, with at least 1 year in supervisory capacity, in the branch of pest control for which license is sought. 2) Have participated in at least 100 jobs within the last four years in the specific branch. EXAMINATIONS: Exam administered by an independent testing agency. FEES: $30 for application, $52 for license, and $148 for biennial compliance resolution fund. License renewal every 2 years is $130.
