Acupuncturists must be licensed by the Idaho Board of Acupuncture. A person may obtain either a license or a certification for acupuncture. Qualifications for licensure include: 1) Submitting an application with required documents and fees; 2) Graduation from approved acupuncture program; 3) Successful completion of acupuncture internship; 4) Passing the NCCAOM Acupuncture Certification Examination; 5) Completing the Blood Borne Pathogen course and comprehensive exam that incorporates clean needle techniques and OSHA procedures and requirements. Certification can be obtained if a person holds a license in a profession with similar requirements. Qualifications for certification include: 1.) Passing a board approved exam; 2.) Full membership of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture OR Earn a doctoral degree from approved school in a related field and successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of didactic course work in acupuncture taught by an NCCAOM certified acupuncturist; 3.) Completing the Blood Borne Pathogen course and comprehensive exam that incorporates clean needle techniques and OSHA procedures and requirements. Term: Licenses are renewed annually.
