GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Teaches students in all phases of cosmetology. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must have 1000 additional hours, in an approved school of cosmetology, as an apprentice instructor. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Examinations are scheduled in September through June, as determined by the regulatory agency. Type examination; written, with a minimum passing score of 80%, and a practical, with a minimum score of 85%. Examination fee is $50.00. Contact the regulatory agency for applications. Should you fail, contact, the regulatory agency. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicant must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. There are no residency or health requirements. Must be of good moral character and temperate habit. Must have one (1) year work-experience in a licensed beauty salon. License fee is $35.00 for the first license. All license expire July 31, annually, with a renewal fee of $25.00. There are no reciprocity agreements with other states. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Effective July 1, 1997, cosmetology instructors shall provide proof of eight (8) hours of continuing education for renewal of license. Contact the regulatory agency for specifics. SPECIAL COMMENTS or CONDITIONS Application for apprentice instructor must be approved by the regulatory agency prior to issuance of the license. Must have a cosmetologist license.
