GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION A physician assistant may perform any and all medical services that are within the scope of training in an approved program and which are also within the scope of the supervising physician's practice as designated by the specialty code in the most current revision of the Kentucky Medical Directory. The physician assistant shall not make a definitive diagnosis or prescribe or employ any treatment modality independent of the supervising physician. However, a physician assistant may, without specific approval, initiate evaluation and treatment in emergency situations. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS The applicant shall be a graduate of a program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS The applicant shall have successfully completed the certification examination administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) within three (3) attempts. Applications for the NCCPA examination are available through the NCCPA's Atlanta, Georgia office. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS In conjunction with the renewal of his / her certification, the physician assistant shall provide evidence of having completed, in the last two (2) years, a minimum of one hundred (100) hours of continuing education accepted by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or the American Medical Association.
