EMS providers respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility. There are four levels of “EMT” license recognized by Maine EMS: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT, and Paramedic. These levels are defined by the education and skills requirements as well as the scope of practice.
