To receive a Professional Counselor License in the State of Michigan, an applicant must have received a master's or doctoral degree in counseling and have completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours in counseling topics. Additionally, those with a master's degree are required to accrue at least 3,000 hours of post-degree counseling experience within a 2-year period, with 100 hours gained in the direct presence of a supervisor. Less is required for those studying counseling beyond a master's degree. Finally, after passing the National Counselor Examination, an individual may submit a license application along with the appropriate application fee ($84.80 to $121.90).
