<h3>Occupational Description</h3><br>Water Operators are responsible for the continued performance of public water systems that provide water for human consumption. There are currently six grades of licenses: Grade I to Grade V pertain to Public Water System Operators, and Grade VI pertains to Public Water System Authorized Backflow Preventer Testing & Repair Technicians. Grade I License- Required for the Operator in responsible charge of a Class I public water system; Grade II License- Required for the Operator in responsible charge of a Class II public water system; Grade III License- Required for the Operator in responsible charge of a Class III public water system; Grade IV License- Required for the Operator in responsible charge of a Class IV public water system; Grade V License- Required for the Operator of a Class V non-community water supply system, such as; a restaurant, gas station, or rest area; Grade VI License- Required for an individual who inspects, tests, and repairs backflow preventers with test ports, installed to protect a public water systems from backflow.<br><h3>Licensure Requirements</h3><br>Applicants must: 1. Meet the experience and education requirements for eligibility to take and pass the licensing examination; Examination for water operator grades I - V is based on relevant subject-matter corresponding to the grade of Water Operator license requested. Grade VI license examination includes both a hands-on practical examination and written examination on relevant subject material. 2. Be either a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted into the United States who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act, or a nonimmigrant who is lawfully present in the United States and who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act.<br><h3>Fees</h3><br>Grades I, II, III, IV, VI License Fee- $115.00 Grade V License Fee- $31.00<br><h3>Renewal</h3><br>Renewal is required biennially on December 31 of each odd-numbered year. The renewal fee is the same as the initial fee for each license type. Ten hours of continuing education are required biennially are required to qualify for renewal of a grade I, II, III, IV, or VI license. Grade V licensees are exempt from continuing education and renewal requirements.
