Applicants must: 1) Have four years of experience as a journeyman, foreman, supervising employee or contractor in the specific classification in which he/she is applying. The experience must have been obtained within the preceding 10 years. Training received at an accredited college or university may be used to satisfy a portion of the required experience. 2) Prove financial responsibility (the board determines the amount of the bond that will be required.) 3) Possess good character and provide 4 reference certificates from individuals with firsthand knowledge of the applicant's experience. 4) Pass the Contractors Management Survey (CMS) exam. 5) Pass the applicable trade exam, if required for the specific license. Exams are given daily in Las Vegas, on various days in Reno, and on a limited basis in Elko. Visit the website for more detailed information on the requirements and application process. Sub classifications in this license category include: airports; highways; dams and reservoirs; bridges; diamond and core drilling; oil and gas well drilling; excavating and grading; sealing and striping of asphaltic surfaces; piers and foundations; swimming pools; recycling asphalt; excavating, grading, trenching, surfacing; wrecking buildings; steel erection and industrial machinery; sewers, drains, pipes; paving of streets, driveways, and parking lots; lines to transmit electricity; farm irrigation; pipeline and conduits (water, gas); industrial piping; fencing and guardrails; removal of asbestos. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: initial application--$300; initial license and biennial renewal--$600; Residential Recovery Fund Assessment (for residential contractors only) based upon monetary license limit--$200 - $1,000; CMS and Trade exam: exam provider sets the fee.
