NURSE AIDE <br><br>A nurse aide assists in the care of patients under the direction of the nursing and medical staff. A nursing assistant serves meals; bathes and dresses patients; measures and records food intake and output; takes and records temperature, blood pressure and pulse; sets up equipment; and moves patients. In home care, a CNA may prepare and serve food, change bed linen, change surgical dressings and assist patients in adapting to disability or illness. <br><br>REQUIREMENTS: <br>Satisfactory completion of training and examination requirements. <br><br>TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: <br>Completion of a training program approved by the Board which consists of at least 75 clock hours of training including at least 16 hours of supervised practical training in a setting where the trainee demonstrates knowledge while performing tasks, under direct supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse, on an individual. <br><br>EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:<br> Satisfactory performance on a competency examination administered and evaluated by the Department of Health via contract with a state-approved testing agency. The examination consists of a written or oral test (as selected by the individual), and a demonstration of skills test consisting of a demonstration of randomly selected items drawn from a pool of all tasks generally performed by nursing assistants. <br><br>CONTINUING EDUCATION:<br> At least twelve hours per year of in service training provided by the facility.
